HELPFUL TIPS TO MAINTAIN YOUR ORAL HEALTH THROUGH LOCKDOWN BY THE DENTISTS AT AIGBURTH DENTAL
Helpful Tips from our dental team at Aigburth Dental Practice in Liverpool, to help you maintain your oral health through lockdown.
Brush gently using no water but a fluoride toothpaste for 2 minutes. Spit, don’t rinse. Don’t brush straight after food or drinks. Don’t brush straight away if you’ve had an acid reflux episode. Wait 30 minutes and drink some iced water.
Clean in between your teeth with either interdental brushes or floss, ideally before brushing.
Limit sugary and acid foods to meal times or treat times once or twice per week.
Ideally, don’t smoke or vape. If that’s not possible then vaping is better than smoking.
Limit alcohol consumption to no more than 14 units per week.
If you grind your teeth and have a gum shield, wear it each night.
Avoid very sticky sweets to avoid dislodging fillings, crowns and bridges.
Try to avoid nuts, seeds or other hard foods.
Try not to bite your nails. Avoid tearing sticky tape with your teeth or holding hair pins between your teeth. Avoid removing bottle tops with your teeth. These actions can all fracture teeth.
Wear a sports gum shield for all contact sports. Consider wearing one when cycling.
